Rolex Fastnet Entries Closed

Applications for the 2009 Rolex Fastnet opened on 1 January and effectively closed two months later when the 300 cap on entries was reached. Two people were rescued from their 25ft yacht Ouhm approximately 35 miles north east of Dunbar in the North Sea.

Forth Coastguard received a radio call from the crew aboard the yacht at just after 5pm.

"Barbecue Summer Ahead" says UK Met Office

The coming summer is 'odds on for a barbecue summer', according to long-range forecasts. Summer temperatures across the UK are likely to be warmer than average and rainfall near or below average for the three months of summer.

Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, Ewen McCallum, said: "After two disappointingly-wet summers, the signs are much more promising this year. We can expect times when temperatures will be above 30 °C, something we hardly saw at all last year."

Man injured by Yacht Propeller after Falling Into The Sea

Holyhead Coastguard have been coordinating the recovery to hospital of a man in his 60s from Moelfre who, after falling from his dinghy, suffered lacerations to his leg after coming into contact with the propeller of a nearby yacht who came to assist him.

US Coastguard rescue 5 from sinking trawler

The US Coast Guard rescued five fishermen from the 58-foot fishing vessel Seafarer after it began taking on water on Friday in Southeast Alaska.

The Seafarer, based out of Klawock, sent out a mayday call when they began to abandon ship into an 18-foot skiff at 12:51 a.m. in Clarence Strait approximately seven miles north of Thorn Bay.

Rescue of yacht with cracked hull

Clyde Coastguard coordinated the rescue on Thursday evening of five individuals from the yacht 'Ariadne' which reported that she had a split hull and was taking water off the Heads of Ayr, near Troon on the east coast of Scotland.

The Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team were immediately sent to the area and the Troon all weather and inshore lifeboats were requested to launch. A rescue helicopter from Prestwick was also scrambled.

Five injured as boat lands heavily in the water

Five people were injured in a large rigid water jet powered passenger carrying vessel, the `Ocean Ranger, which came off a wave and landed heavily in the sea off the coast of south west Wales.

The vessel run by Thousand Island Expeditions is an MCA coded vessel capable of carrying 12 passengers, and was carrying 11 passengers at the time of the incident.

Coast Guard rescuers respond to sailboat aground near Los Angeles Harbor

Rescuers from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles and Baywatch Lifeguards responded to a sailboat that went aground about off San Pedro Ca about 5 miles northwest of the entrance to Los Angeles Harbor.

The lone sailor on board was safely removed from the vessel.

Initial efforts by Baywatch to re-float the vessel were unsuccessful and a crack was discovered in the vessel's hull so further efforts to refloat have been suspended....

RNLI Busy Over Easter

RNLI crews around the UK have been reporting a busy Easter as they assisted yachts, motor cruisers, jet skiers and people on the cliffs and ashore.
