RNLI launch to assist Sunseeker off Exmouth Beach

Exmouth RNLI launched both the Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) and All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) after watching a 37ft Sunseeker boat 'Wildcat' run into difficulties just off Exmouth beach at 12.17pm on Thursday 29th January.

The three Portsmouth men on board had just refuelled at Exmouth and decided the conditions were OK to return to sea. However, with a strong South East wind and threatening gales, crew at the Exmouth RNLI base kept watch and it was not long before the boat ran into trouble.

Exmouth RNLI Deputy Launching Authority Manager (DLA) Jon Haynes said; "They could be seen leaving the channel a few times and at one point was stuck on the sandbar near Buoy 8. It was 2 hours before low tide and as there was serious risk of beaching we launched the ILB and ALB to assist the vessel. We took the decision to launch both boats as the weather conditions were worsening."
